5 Home-Based Artisanal Bakeries to Check Out in Singapore

I've always love to check out HBB (aka home-based businesses) as each batch of pastries produced are handcrafted. With us supporting these local micro-bakeries, we are not only helping the local community but also helping to support the dreams of bakers here.

*The bakeries are listed in random order.

1. Cassia Canelés Featured in 8days
Canelés are luxurious little bite-sized desserts infused with rum and vanilla. They were first created in Southern France a few hundred years ago. Today they are one of the culinary symbols of the City of Bordeaux, making this dessert one of the most appreciated regional specialty in France.

This is one delicacy that everyone should try at least once in their life time.

The internal texture of these canelés are tender and custardy with a honeycomb structure, as well as a slight crisp on the external. A box of canelés priced from $22 onwards.

2. The Baking Point
A home-based bakery which specializes in brownies, cookies and other pastries. I have personally tried their brownies and cookies back in May 2021 and boy, I can still remember the taste in my mind.

The brownies were one of the best I have ever eaten. It had a crunchy surface with a moist, rich and chewy chocolatey taste. 🍫 There was also a nice balance of sea-salt taste which adds additional flavor to it. The cookie was soft, somewhat chewy, a little moist, and loaded with generous amount of melted chocolate. 🍪

3. The Pandakery
For the adventurous ones who are keen in unconventional and quirky flavors. Have you ever tried Wasabi Seaweed Citrus, Maple Bacon, Bundung or Cempedak flavor in cakes before? Don’t they sound interesting for a change? Of course if you prefer something more conventional, they have it as well.

There is something that I really enjoyed from this bakery’s creation, and that is their Truffle Chocolate Cookies. They were super fragrant and so chocolaty delicious; it was simply divine. The truffle taste wasn’t too strong for me, and I like this so much that I finished up the entire tub on my own. *Too yummy, cannot share with others. 😛*

If you like to have a good quality and yummy bika ambon (aka honey comb cake), then be sure to check them out. This micro bakery offers a range of different flavors - Orange (which I love by the way), Coffee, Pandan, Gula Melaka, Chocolate and not forgetting the Original.

While the pricing is a little steep at S$35 - S$38 per ambon cake, the texture and taste is great in my opinion. For people who isn’t into sweet stuffs, you will be delighted to have this. And for the sweet tooth lovers, you may request for more sweetness upon ordering.
